The path to getting a real estate license depends on the state that you're in. The first step is to look up the requirements in your specific state. Every state is different, but the curriculum is usually very similar. This is because real estate is practiced almost the same way around the United States.

Schooling

All states require that you take a course before you can become licensed. The curriculum is usually based around the entirety of the real estate business. Real estate agents need to know how to deal with clients. They need to understand how mortgages work. Real estate schools have a test at the end. This test is different from the exam that is usually required to get licensed. Some schools offer online courses. Their end of course tests may also be taken online. Students typically need to get a passing grade on the exam at the end of the course. In many states a bachelor's degree in real estate will act as a replacement for the course.

Exams

Real estate agents need to take an exam to get licensed. This exam is separate from the exam at the end of the course. There are huge books written to assist people in passing these exams. Some states have very hard tests. Students need good memorization and basic math skills to pass this test. Understanding the wording of the questions is often the hardest part. Real estate uses a lot of legal terminology that is hard for the average person to understand. The test is typically proctored at a testing center.
